Julia Watson, PhD is a Senior Economic Adviser in the Department for International Development’s Human Development Department.  She advises on strengthening health systems in low income countries, particularly domestic health financing systems, and on the role of the private sector in increasing the use of good quality essential health services by poor people.  Julia has previously worked for DFID on health and education programmes in Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia and on Gavi.  She also spent several years working at the UK Department of Health on domestic health issues ranging from infertility services to the market for blood products.
